How I Work

I offer face to face counselling and psychotherapy for adult individuals and I work in an integrative way. This means that I am able to draw upon ideas from several schools of thought about how we as people come to be as we are. For more information about this, see About Me.

I aim to be non-judgmental and welcoming and it’s important to me to help create a warm relationship that will enable you to talk about whatever you need to. I don’t claim to have the answers and there is no magic wand – but what I can do is help you explore how you feel, what that might mean and what, if anything, you might choose to do next.

The First Consultation

This will last 50 minutes and give us an opportunity to meet and for you to ask any questions you would like. I will invite you to say something about what’s prompted you to seek counselling but understand that it’s not always possible to speak of what really matters straight away. Many people find that once they have found someone they can really talk to they end up talking about all kinds of things they hadn’t realised were bubbling under – so don’t be surprised if whatever prompts you to seek counselling isn’t what you end up talking about.

I will treat what you tell me as confidential as far as the law and ethical guidelines of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy allow.

Working Together

If we then agree to meet regularly each session lasts 50 minutes. I am happy to work with you for an agreed number of sessions or in a more open ended way. Sessions are usually weekly. If you have any questions about how I work, please do contact me and I'll do my best to answer them.
